Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France, to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. They moved to Oxfordshire when she was five years old, and attended the Dragon School. Emma was aware of her desire to be an actor from when she was six years old. She trained for several years at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. This part-time theatre school taught her singing, dancing, and acting. At the age of ten Emma was already participating acting in Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. In 1999 casting started for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) The movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents stumbled upon Emma through her Oxford theatre instructor. After eight consistent auditions David Heyman revealed to Emma and Rupert Grint (other applicants), that they had been given the roles of Hermione Gringer, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. The film was the biggest-selling film of 2001 in terms of opening-day and weekend takings. Film critics praised the film as well as the performances of three leading young actors. The well-known British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, called her performance "admirable". Emma won the Young Artist Award as Leading Young Actress in the Feature Film as well as being nominated for five prizes. Following the release of the first film of the highly successful franchise, Emma became one of the most well-known actors in the world. Hermione Granger continued to be her character for a total of 10 years in the Harry Potter films. Emma was nominated for two Critics' Choice Awards by the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
